A Lush New Single from These Broken Lines
A warm and cinematic new single from These Broken Lines delivers a wonderful blend of folk, rock, contemporary, and hints of pop in its undertone. The track is lush with gorgeous instrumentation, not only from the guitar work, but also the piano that really adds a different layer of depth to the song and helps push some of the emotional backbone it delivers.
The live percussion and drumming really add great flavor to the song; it brings on a little bit of drive but is not over the top. Instead, it helps the song bring out a live performance kind of energy.
Later on, trumpet sections come in and deliver a great hook right where you would think the guitars would come in instead. I loved this additional touch, change, and direction because the tone of the instrument brought out something a bit different.
That part really pulled me into the song even further, and I found myself sort of getting stuck on those riffs.
The single is constructed with loads of heart. The performance is super on point, but again, there's a lot of emotional aspect to it, and the vocals do an amazing job of giving the same kind of energy as the instruments are.
There's an acoustic guitar along with the live drumming, piano, bass guitar, and additional tones that come in and out.
The singer really gave the song its character.
It's not just about the performance, but it's also about the lyrics. These lyrics definitely paint a picture as the song unfolds, and it's quite beautiful, especially in terms of how descriptive they can be.
To me, this is a song about love, friendship, a little bit of loss, and just life itself.
We come across a lot of different relationship-based aspects throughout our lives, and this song manages to sort of encompass a lot of that.
During the verses, the vocals are a little softer and deeper-toned. But as the song plays on, they become more robust and boisterous, hitting higher notes and getting more intense in their performance.
During those sections, the piano also goes off on certain kinds of riffs, hitting higher notes and bringing up the intensity of the instrumentation even more.
The dynamic energy between all the instruments is natural and flows beautifully.
By that last part of the song, the final chorus, everything is a bit full swing.
There are also string sections that come in performed on keys, but also building on a bit of an orchestral approach and aesthetic, which again, boasts even more of the cinematic feel I mentioned earlier.
There's something about this single that pulls you away from wherever you are and whatever you are doing, and puts you in a different space.
I think it has to do with the personality and character behind the song itself, which you end up getting attached to the most.
The storytelling is outstanding here. Again, very descriptive, so you get pulled into the story quickly and easily.
The way the lyrics are put together also makes things very relatable, so you end up connecting with certain aspects of it as well.
It's something that just feels like it came from a genuine place.
There's a heavy-handed authenticity behind this track, and I love how it wrapped itself around me.
You can hear a slew of influences coming into play with this one. I'm hearing everything from that folk rock to hints of Americana, loads of that contemporary overcoat, giving everything a warm tonality.
The single is called "The Rhythm and The Rain", and it just dropped today.
One of the coolest things about this entire project is that it is helmed by Brian David Detmers, who started writing and composing, and inviting guest vocalists and other musicians to help him record songs.
A lot of his music features different vocalists and players from across the country, which is pretty amazing.
Just to think that this one person writes the songs and then reaches out to get other performers to come in and be a part of this project is something special.
This single showcases a lot of what he's able to do in terms of creating an atmosphere with his music, and I definitely suggest checking this out now.
Also, listening with headphones will give you a bigger and better feel for the layers of tones that are coming in and out, along with that emotional aspect.
So, take a deep dive into this one now and remember where you heard it first.
