An Honest and Lush New Single from Tiaryn
One of my favorite things about the new release from Tiaryn, aside from its wonderfully vulnerable honesty, is how she's able to blend these sorts of lively rhythms in with jazz and contemporary pop undertones to create something that has its own atmosphere.
Her new single, "Goodbye", certainly showcases how the artist can put pieces of herself into her music. The song feels like it's about someone in a relationship of some kind, who is leaving, and after it is over, she regrets not saying certain things that she feels like she should have.
I'm not seeing the songs exactly about regret, but she gets so descriptive with those lyrics at times, singing about the fire in her belly, and how she couldn't say goodbye.
How she was biting her lip instead of the things that she was thinking at the time.
Sometimes hindsight is 20/20, as they say. When you're in the moment, it's not easy to regain your balance or be brave enough at that time to say certain things.
This is how I interpreted the song anyway. Others may take it a little differently, but for me, the sentiment was pretty loud and clear.
I definitely connected with this aspect of it, mostly because of how she articulates her lyrics. She's able to be so descriptive and straightforward with things, but also be semi-metaphoric at the same time.
She uses the metaphor parts to describe how she was actually feeling in the moment and how she's feeling now.
The track is beautifully woven with this smooth and very soulful performance by all parts.
It's riddled with lush and wonderfully toned instrumentation that comes through these gorgeous layers.
You have these plucking sort of guitars that go right along with light Samba, jazz-infused groove, along with amazing string sections that are fully orchestrated and give the track a cinematic backbone in those moments.
The keys feel warm, almost like a Hammond or a Rhodes, and her vocals are sultry, alluring, and have this beautiful, welcoming tone to them that invites you into the story and to her personality as well.
I think that's one of the biggest assets to this track in general. Aside from its amazingly full-bodied yet smooth instrumentation and approach, it's got character behind it.
I feel like it's that character that you actually get yourself attached to.
There's a lot about this track that puts you in the moment with it. It pulls you away from wherever you are and whatever you're doing, it puts you into this different space for a little chunk of time.
There's some amazing guitar work that's also used to create depth. It's got a heavy-handed reverb effect in those notes that sort of float through the ether of the song, giving it an ambient or vast sort of underbelly.
The whole thing really just pulls you in, and it's easy to get engulfed and then washed away by the entire thing, but it also gets intense at times.
During some of those courses, when the strings are thriving, and her vocals are a little more robust, you find yourself swallowed up by the soundscape of everything.
This is a song you listen to with headphones on. This is the best way to soak in, not only the lyrics and emotion, but also the layers of textures that come through.
Listening to it with headphones lets you find yourself swimming through the atmosphere of it all.
I would definitely suggest taking a deep dive into this one when you can, as it was just released today, and I think it speaks volumes for the artist and how she creates sound and emotion that puts you right in her space.
