An Addicitive and Vivicious EP from Tiny Specks

A fresh new release from Tiny Specks blends a soiree of rock genres to create something that feels vivacious and alive but has some depth and layers to it.
The First Contact EP has a wonderful way of taking vast undertones and indie rock with an almost cinematic backbone at times which comes from some of the effects that are used on the guitars in the vocals at different times throughout the record.
This is not a dry EP by any means. It is wet with effects and therefore has this sort of atmosphere it delivers which you get pulled right into.
The first track, "Alien Abduction" has a very spacious and expansive underbelly to it with delayed guitars, layers of texture, and this drifting and almost floating feel and aesthetic throughout the entire thing.
One of the things I love about this track is how it feels like a live performance and everyone involved is feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.
This is a kind of staple throughout the EP actually. A lot of these songs feel like they were recorded live on the floor so everyone was just vibing and helping that drive come through exactly the way they needed it to.
I wasn't there for the recording of course, so I have no idea that's how they did it but listening to this record makes you want to go see the band perform it live in your face simply because if that kind of energy and aesthetic can be captured on record so well, then seeing them live must be awesome.
I absolutely love hearing a band and immediately knowing that they're going to be a great live show.
That first track was once again, very vast and floaty. It takes you to a different place but introduces you to the atmosphere of what's to come.
Just after that song is one called "Danger Oso" which is an absolute banger. This track all of a sudden bursts into a fuzz-tone thrash fest with garage rock embedded in its veins and an incredible drive from beginning to end.
These are two of the biggest elements that you get throughout the album. The gritty, semi-dirty garage punk and rock approach, and you also have that indie rock floatiness that's a bit more progressive and layered.
It's an amazing blend of color, atmosphere, and edginess.
By the time you get past that second track, you begin to expect the unexpected.
Ahead lies tons of outstanding guitar work and sets of tones along with classic rock influence, and attitude-riddled vocals that feel animated and again, live.
All of these songs have such a strange way of putting you right there in the moment.
You can clearly hear that this entire band has a real love for their craft and when I say that I don't just mean playing instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that are unique and have that colorful edginess strewn throughout them.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the things that hit me hardest about this record is the personality attached to it. This is because you end up getting attached to that personality as well and it's been quite some time since I've heard a record that actually gives you that much persona and so straight on.
This was an awesome record that surprised me quite a bit and showcased a band that writes songs without walls built up around them. It's an EP built with fewer boundaries than you may be used to and I found that refreshing as hell.
Definitely check this record out as soon as you can and turn it up because it's way more fun that way.
Dive into this one now and see what it does for you.
