An Interview With Wally Echo

A new single release from Wally Echo delivers a warm and welcoming spirit in the form of a Christmas song that breeds both a contemporary and almost alternative and indie rock approach with huge, robust choruses, and amazingly detailed lyrics that really put you in the moment with the song and paint a great picture as it unfolds.

"Christmas In The Air" starts with cleaner and acoustic guitars that come in double-tracked for thickness, and that works beautifully as the song already starts really lush.

You also have classic jingles that are kind of in the background, keeping the rhythm and pace, along with vocals that are quite heartfelt and have a little bit of this emo approach to them, with amazing melodies that stick in your head for hours.

This is something that all leads up to that huge course I mentioned earlier, and this is something that really has a great impact.

This is a perfect example of a track that breeds in indie and alternative rock backbone, but still carries with it that very inviting Christmas and holiday spirit, as the whole sentiment of the song really thrives.

The thing with this track is that it expresses a few different emotions in one shot. You have the warmth and happiness of the time of year, Christmas itself, having that excited feeling in your bones, but it also has to do with thinking about some of the people that you've lost.

When you've lost people, which a lot of us have, of course, the holidays have a bittersweet sentiment to them, and this song manages to capture that super well.

A lot of the impact of this song really does come from those lyrics because he is able to articulate what he's trying to say so well that you automatically connect with it on both ends. The happiness and the bitter side of things.

The premise of having people that you've lost and the way you think about them during the holidays is a really intense notion, but again, it's so relatable. A lot of us have that, and a lot of inner thoughts and emotions run through our bodies and minds during this time.

The thing is, most of us don't know how to articulate it into words, let alone words and music, so when we hear a song like this, it means something to us.

It tells us that we're not alone in these feelings and emotions. I think that's very important because we need to understand that. We are not alone. This happens to everybody, and it's okay to feel that bittersweetness of the holidays at certain points.

At any rate, this was beautifully done, and the guitar tones were very well balanced in terms of bringing on that colorful and bright spirit of pop-rock, along with an added edginess, especially at those choruses.

Nothing about this is really over the top. It's perfectly dynamically balanced, but it's got a lot of that thriving emotion that really takes the helm. That's the thing that you end up getting attached to.

Again, this was a very spirited and uplifting, but also honest and slightly vulnerable track that showcases an artist who can deliver music and lyrics that actually do come from some genuine place.

Everything here came from the heart. It came from life experience and being able to cope with the emotional balance of everything.

I feel like for Wally Echo, this was cathartic to write and release. A lot of that inner thought comes spilling out for all to soak in, and that was part of the beauty of this track.

With the release of the song, I absolutely had to chat with the artist to really find out exactly where it came from, and what might be coming up next for him.

So, while you listen to this track, read through our interview with Wally Echo below to find out more.

Don't pass this one up. This is the kind of holiday music we need. Don't forget where you heard it first.

Let’s talk about “Christmas In The Air”! Where did this track come from? Why a Christmas release?

“Christmas In The Air” started as a moment of calm in a chaotic world. I wanted to capture that feeling when the season slows everything down and suddenly the small things mean more than the big ones. The song came to me almost like a scene from a film — warm lights, honest memories, and a sense of belonging. Releasing it at Christmas felt natural, because the emotion was already inside the music from the very beginning. It’s a song about connection rather than the holiday itself.

I'm hearing different approaches in this single! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

My roots are a blend of emotional rock and melodic pop-punk. Bands like Blink-182 and Jimmy Eat World shaped how I think about energy, clarity, and honesty in songwriting. At the same time, I’m influenced by the spirit of 80s pop-rock, where melodies felt big, direct, and unforgettable. My sound naturally mixes these worlds — modern emotion with a touch of nostalgia.

Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?

I recorded it in my home setup. Outside of music I work as an IT project coordinator, so my creative time needs to be focused and intentional. My digital tools give me complete creative freedom to shape the sound exactly the way I imagine it. This setup lets me capture the emotion and the story behind the song in the most direct and natural way.

How did this all start for you as an artist?

It started with storytelling long before I ever touched an instrument. I realised early that I could express emotions better through lyrics than through spoken words. Two years ago I began playing keyboard, and just recently I picked up the electric guitar — both to deepen my understanding of sound and expand my creative language. Even though I’m still growing instrumentally, I’ve always had a clear vision of how I want a song to feel. That clarity shapes everything I create today.

Are you performing live right now?

Not at the moment. Right now I’m focused on releasing music, shaping my sound, and building the emotional universe around my songs. Live shows will come when the time is right — and when they do, I want them to feel immersive, not just performative. It’s important to me that the live experience matches the emotional depth of the recordings.

Now that this is out, what’s next for you?

The next chapter is already in motion. My recent release “Forever Our Song” continues the emotional world I started building with “Skye,” and “Christmas In The Air” brings a seasonal light into that journey. Beyond that, I'm working on new material for early 2026, exploring different moods and themes. I like creating in arcs — every release adds another layer to the bigger story.

Who’s in your headphones right now?

Lately, I’ve been listening to Jimmy Eat World and Blink-182, especially their newer material. There’s something about that combination of emotion and energy that always resonates with me. I also revisit classic 80s pop-rock for inspiration — those big melodic ideas still influence my sound today.

What would you tell people they can expect from this release?

Warmth, energy, and a sense of cinematic nostalgia. “Christmas In The Air” isn’t just a holiday song — it’s a moment captured in sound. People can expect a blend of heartfelt emotion and uplifting atmosphere, wrapped in a melody that feels familiar yet new. It’s a song meant to bring back memories you didn’t expect.

Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

I want to say thank you to everyone who takes the time to listen. I create music in the moments between work and life, but every song comes from a place of honesty and passion. Knowing that these stories resonate with people means everything to me. If my music makes someone feel understood, inspired, or simply a bit less alone — then it’s worth it.
