A Beautifully Honest Release from Will Knox
A new release from Will Knox delivers a unique brand of honesty that comes in the form of these beautiful and personal, sometimes lush, sometimes one-on-one songs and it feels like everything is coming from someplace real. It feels like each song is a chapter in the artist's life, making the record incredibly connective.
The English Silence album is riddled with character and it is robust because there's a lot to say, and as the album unfolds you begin to realize that there are layers that can be peeled back and it's extremely fun to do exactly that.
This is a record focused on a folk and singer-songwriter approach. Still, it also blends in elements of indie pop, and a slew of other, sort of, subgenres if you will, which all end up coming together to give the record its own atmosphere and this is something I adore about the release because once you're there, you don't want to leave that atmosphere at all.
You want to stay and finish the stories.
This is partially because, at times, the lyrics can be so descriptive and detailed that it puts you right there in the moment or the place.
This also is massively connective and I feel like some of these songs are so personal that you can tell Will just needed a way to get them off of his chest and this is how he knows to do it.
I'm happy about that because some of the songs feel so understandable and relatable that we feel like the song may have been written just for us even though we know it wasn't.
We all go through these different life changes and struggles, triumphs, and at times, tragedies.
There is cold and warm, light and dark, and this album covers so much of all these things that living a real life actually has to offer.
This is part of what makes the record so beautiful.
Throughout this release you get amazing acoustic guitar work that feels warm and welcoming, you also get these sorts of cinematic builds at times and this adds a bit of lusciousness to the release along with some experimental approaches including lyrical phrasing, how he's putting together his words, and his vocal approach as a whole.
It is also very warm vocally because of that honesty because of his performance being so passionate if you will. But there's also a little bit of experimentation in terms of how he puts everything together and I love that about the record.
There are more than a few surprises around the corners and this whole thing has such an emotional drive that you just can't look away from it.
This is one of those records that you need to listen to all the way through because if you listen to only one or two tracks from this release, then you're not getting anywhere near the full spectrum of what the album actually has to offer.
There is a lot there. The album does have a lot to offer so again, most certainly listen to the whole record if you can because it's well worth your time especially if you're someone who likes to feel something from listening to music.
It has that attribute to it. This is an album that makes you think and makes you feel and personally, I think we need more of that musically in the world in general.
A beautiful album from Will Knox that really showcases how he is an artist that gives pieces of himself in his music and his releases.
Listen to this record with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to soak it in.
