A New Single from Wonderlick

A brand new single release from Wonderlick gives off a classic aesthetic that reminds me of certain kinds of bands from the mid to late 80s. They do this by bringing a colorful pop element to rock music,  with animated vocals while keeping a forward-moving flow, but also being a little bit outside-the-box at the same time.

"Niagara Falls 1969" is a track that is very danceable to an extent. It's got a great groove and rhythm to it, but it's this almost charismatic and colorful approach and layering of textures that make it vivacious and addictive.

I love the way the vocals have this kind of amp simulator effect on them because it reminds me of bands like the Talking Heads, for example, and that gives me bouts of nostalgia because they utilize that effect to keep attention on the vocals so that you can listen to the story that's being told.

Crack that digs deeply, and when you listen to it you'll be paying attention to that the most because it feels like it's a history lesson in the form of a song, and that's such a unique approach to begin with that it keeps your attention.

This was a lush, full-bodied, fun song and I feel like the best way to listen to it for the first time is by watching the lyric video so you can really soak those in first because you will be totally getting into all of those danceable guitars, drums, rhythms, and grooves while you do it.

Gets a little edgy at times and definitely has a very exciting and vivacious approach in terms of the energy that's displayed.

There's also some amazing instrumentation from banjo to piano, along with those guitars giving it this expansive feel and really unique set of tones that come across impactful, but again, still colorful and fun.

You can tell that this is a band that loves to write songs together that are a little bit loose, slightly humorous, but also have a serious side to them as well.

Although the track bends genres in different ways, it's almost like a retro alt-pop single with the vintage-sounding undertone completely nailed aesthetically.

This was amazing to me because they pulled it off with all this different instrumentation and knew exactly what they were doing when they put the song together.

You can definitely tell it was a lot of attention to detail for this track, but they had a ball doing it, and you will definitely find yourself singing that chorus even after the song has ended.

It's a great course, and they certainly do it enough times to get that stuck in your brain.

Again, watching the music video, which I've embedded below, is the best way to check out the song for the first time and really dive into it.

After you do that, I highly suggest listening to their undisciplined album from last year because it's absolutely amazing and has a lot of different approaches that show other sides to how they write their songs and perform.

This single alone displays a slew of musical influences, and the album prior to that expands on that even more.

Definitely check the stuff out when you get a chance, and you certainly won't be disappointed anytime soon.

Check out the video below so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.
