yumenoma Delivers An Immersive and Ever Changing Release
An ever-changing and immersive new single from yumenoma delivers a massive soundscape that blends sonic tendencies and genres as it unfolds, bleeding from folktronica to contemporary pop, dream, psychedelic, and so much more, all rolled into this opus of a piece of work, and it's got such a colorful atmosphere that pulls you in.
The release is called "parallel fantasia," and it certainly doesn't hold back in the way of branching out.
This is a perfect example of a release that is created with fewer boundaries than whatever you may be used to. This is part of its appeal. Its sort of ever-evolving and changing soundscape is something that you end up getting caught up in.
It is full of surprises around its corners, spans over 16 minutes in length, and can very quickly engulf you, in the best ways possible.
The song opens up with a dulcimer-sounding set of keys that automatically sound lush right from the get-go. This opens up into jazz elements and almost samba rhythms, as more instrumentation comes into play, and the vibe and energy start shifting.
One of the things that really makes this powerful is the percussion. The percussion is outside the box in every way, but gives the song a sense of theatrical underbelly.
This is one of my favorite aspects about it.
Vocals are sort of soothing and smooth. They give off such gorgeous melodies and changes as the song plays through.
Before long, you have guitars that are performed in a reverse effect, bringing that experimental and psychedelic attribute to the table.
Acoustic guitar is brought into the song, and the avant-garde percussion turns into bongos in a steady pace. The keys are used almost like flutes in the background, circa 1960s classic rock, and the whole thing is just breathtaking.
Before long, the song changes gears again, and rhythms along with it. You have different keys that are overlapping, and the pace picks up. Every 4 minutes or so, the song starts to shift. It's a beautiful way of expressing all of this different sort of emotion and cinematic undertone, while still holding on tightly to its pop sensibilities.
That's the thing with this piece of work. It has a pop overtone almost all the time. That pop overtone is attached to different genres like electronic, folk, jazz, and more, but it's always there.
You have this refreshing sensation when you listen to the song. Not just because it's unlike many songs you've heard before, but more because the tonalities and blending of textures that the song delivers come at you in such a beautiful way.
There's a brightness to the entire tone of the track. It feels welcoming, inviting, and warm a lot of the time.
I also feel like this is a borderline brilliant way of blending natural and digital instrumentation together in a seamless fashion. Everything sort of slips into place like puzzle pieces.
At certain points in the track, you can feel almost scattered, but that's because there's so many layers of those tones happening. Between two different sets of keys, synthesizers, guitars, vocals, and percussion, there's a lot to chew on.
My favorite part of the track is the last chunk. That last piece of the puzzle turns into something completely different once again.
It is a little more hard-hitting, introducing a sitar-sounding instrument, and the drumming becomes bigger and faster.
The vocals also rise in intensity along with the instrumentation, and everything comes together to give you a big, robust, sort of intense ending to the track.
This is less a piece of music and more an experience. I love how it displays these different moods along the way and how you get swallowed up by each different set.
Again, that theatrical feel is almost always there, and you can certainly hear that experimentation and psychedelic pop influence throughout the entire thing.
This has no walls built around it, breaks borders, blends genres, and does it all in such an elegant way that it feels like one, forward-moving and natural flow.
I definitely had to snap myself out of it after listening to this release. It's like an escape. It pulls you away from wherever you are and whatever you're doing and puts you in a different headspace three or four times throughout its course.
I can't say I've heard anything exactly like this, but I really love how deep it goes, and how much fun it has doing it.
This is a song with a unique character attached to it. It's got personality oozing from every note, and such an almost wild approach to arrangement and songwriting that becomes very quickly infectious and addicting.
I would definitely suggest listening to this one with headphones on so you can soak in all of the changes, textures and tones, and instrumentation that are sort of swimming around you.
It is absolutely fun to get immersed in this track.
