The Theatrical Tones of Allison Saleh
A colorful new single from Allison Saleh has a wonderfully descriptive approach that at times, enables you to picture things vividly in your head while the track itself delivers an almost theatrical undertone and a character that you become quickly attached to.
"Better Off Together" has quite a few surprises around the corners including some massive and lush instrumentation like horn sections and this incredible energy that at times seems to grow and intensity and has the ability to wrap you up even further than when you started.
There's also something about this track that feels like it was a live performance in a way almost like old school Beach Boys tracks were done and the overall feel of the song has that same aesthetic as well where there are keys, bells, horns, vocals, and so much more that are all coming together and everything has to have the same energy so they do it live.
Even if I'm wrong about the whole live on the floor thing, it does feel like every element of this song not only compliments each other but also are feeding off of each other's energies the entire time which indeed gives it that alive and breathing kind of feel.
I adore this aspect of the track because when it's over you feel like you just actually watched a live performance and it feels like a song straight out of a play.
It's exciting, it has a persona, it sort of shocks you in a way because you really don't expect this and then another part of you feels like you've missed this kind of music for so long that you have to start the song over again as soon as it's done.
There is a lot about this track that sticks with you for hours or even days after the song has ended and it all intrigues you and allures you to find out more about Allison and her music.
Once this happened to me, that's exactly what I did and upon doing so I found that this track is off of an EP called 3.
This whole EP has this aesthetic of three different songs that give off three different emotional and impactful approaches and it all brings together even more instrumentation like string sections and fully orchestrated pieces of music that really stand out and come through with a certain sort of class to them.
This EP was unreal and if you listen to the whole thing through even though it's only three tracks, you feel like you were taken out of your reality for a little bit and put into a different one.
You get to escape into this record and all of its emotional drive and performance.
There's so much that's full of persona and character, it's sort of animated in its own way, and it has this impactful tonality and bountiful musicianship that all creates an atmosphere that you step right into.
This kind of record is a rarity these days and to hear it was a beautiful thing.
If you like music that you can escape into and you can feel and think because you heard it then this EP is 100% for you because the record does make you feel and it does make you think, and it comes with a certain level of intensity that swells and exhales.
This is why I said that it feels like it's alive and breathing in a way.
These are the farthest from cookie-cutter that you can get and I think that you should listen to the whole EP from beginning to end and then take a little bit of a swim through her previous releases because it's all worth your time to say the absolute least.
Check out the single but really listen to the full 3 EP when you can and do it with headphones on this way you could soak it all in properly.
