A Fresh EP from Ancient Good Stuff
A new EP release from Ancient Good Stuff delivers an array of rock undertone soundscapes that range from grunge, alternative rock, and even punk rock but all have this unique character that comes right along with it and that is the thing you really get attached to when listening through this release.
The Condemned Teenagers EP spans four tracks and each one embodies a little bit of a different set of influences, undertones, and approaches but they all stick to this unique persona and that may be the most important part of it all.
Throughout this record, you get a great sort of gritty and raw guitar tone and it's used differently with each track. For example, one of the tracks comes through as much more of a punk track and thrashes a little harder while some of the others have a vaster and more alternative or progressive rock sort of vibe that also comes through with a real classic '90s grunge feel at times.
There are also a lot of other elements to this record that make it genuine and breed other forms of influences and even honesty.
The first track which is the title track introduces you to the record and does a damn good job of it because this song in particular rolls all these different elements into one so this title track has a great example of what you can prepare yourself to hear even though there are still surprises around the corners of this record.
This song also gives me a little bit of a classic rock vibe as well.
To me, the part that I love the most is the blend of sounds and textures that this record has because you have songs that have a harsher or more aggressive sort of tonality in terms of the guitars but then the vocals come in and they are sort of smooth and Soulful in their own way.
The vocalist definitely has a great attitude to her performance and does indeed give you that rock edge but she also has a certain gracefulness that she brings to the project that balances everything out incredibly well.
The last track on the record is one of my favorites as it's an actual acoustic track but still has this sort of punk undertone to it so that attitude and slight element of aggressiveness is still evident even in the acoustic track.
Of course, you are still getting certain levels of honesty and this sort of ambient and vast undertone.
There are a lot of melody lines that stick with you for a long time after the songs have ended and the only way to satiate that is to listen to them again which is something I love.
What's special here is the raw energy that's involved because the songs feel almost like the recorded live on the floor where everyone is sort of feeding off of each other's energies the whole time.
The songs are well arranged and composed but they also break down certain kinds of barriers in terms of standard songwriting so this is an EP built with fewer boundaries than the norm.
There is a huge and youthful cry out with this record and it's something that you end up relating to no matter what your age actually is.
This has an impact, and was done with a freedom because it was a complete passion project and that's something that you pick up on right from the start.
This record has actual heart but boasts just as much edginess as it does personality.
This is a combination that is relentless and holds strong throughout the course of the record.
This was a killer rock record that had layers to it and you should be listening to it from beginning to end because if you don't then you're not going to really pick up on the full spectrum that the EP has to offer.
Check this one out and don't be afraid to turn it up.
