Chris Erasmus Drops An Honest New Single
A brand new single from Chris Erasmus gives an honest approach with a very full-bodied and personal country soundscape and it's all done with this wonderful sort of character that you end up really getting attached to along the way.
"Shotgun" it's a song that definitely comes from someplace real and a lot of Chris's inner thoughts come out throughout this track which makes everything as authentic as it can possibly be and for Chris it feels like it may have even been cathartic to write and release but for the listener, it feels relatable and completely understandable to the point where memories of your own may pop into your head.
I think a lot of us have been in a situation where we're trying to make something work whether it be a relationship or a situation and you know the other party's just letting things go and not really putting their all into it.
The question we ask ourselves is, what do we do about it? Do we just sit around? Are we wasting time?
These are the kinds of things that the song brings up and I feel like it's a subject matter that affects everyone.
We've all been in a situation or a relationship like that at some point in time and have had these thoughts. The cool thing about songs like this is that it lets us feel like we're not alone in those kinds of struggles.
Yes, we definitely don't know how to articulate them into words or music the way artists like Chris do but it's great to hear a song that we can connect with on that level.
This song has a wonderful way of growing and intensity, and sonically as well the further into the song you listen.
It's very acoustic guitar based and it does have that country and Americana tonality but it also has other elements that come into play as well. There's a sort of heartland folk rock undertone that comes through.
Suddenly, these gospel vocals come into the mix and bring a massive and righteous intensity to the song and I just adore the way that comes into play and how it lets the song have these bursts of surprising energy.
Chris's vocals are deep and feel very one-on-one. Almost like you're sitting right there watching him perform the song.
I love that aspect as well because again, it adds to that character that the song is delivering the entire time.
There are a few surprises around the corners which are awesome as well. Great production on this track as it helps those surprises hit harder and lets the bursts of intensity come in thicker.
There's also a vastness in the songs undertone and of course this sort of emotional drive that gives everything a cinematic backbone.
This whole track really has a lot to say but it also has that honesty and again, this is what you end up getting wrapped up in and why you end up getting engulfed in the song and then eventually washed away with it.
This was really wonderfully woven and there was a lot of attention to detail and its creation and arrangement, but it never loses that heart or that personality that it begins with in the first place and that's probably the most important part of the entire thing.
This shows sides of folk, folk rock, classic rock, singer-songwriter, country, and Americana all rolled into one song but it all connects seamlessly.
Upon listening to this track I took a little bit of a deep dive into his back catalog and I'm glad I did because there are a couple of other songs that he has released all within this past year and they each show a little bit of a different side to him as a person and as a songwriter.
This is a wonderful artist that I would definitely be paying a lot more attention to from here on out.
Take a listen to this track and see how it affects you.
