An Interview With Fulvetta
A massive new EP released from Fulvetta brings on such a lush and vast alt-rock feel that reminds of classic 90's bands that you grew up with and loved every second of.
The EP blasts off with this undeniable sonic presence that feels ambient but thick. The distortion surrounds you and these guys keep loads of floating clean sections in the songs to give them more landscape and it works like a damn charm.
The Songbird EP hits that sweet spot that you can feel in your bones especially if you grew up with bands like the Pumpkins, Hum, Far, and others that give you that cinematic tone with pure dreamy touched rock that bares basslines that you can picture the strings vibrating when notes are hit. Lead guitars that are more melodic than shredding. Songs that appeal to your inner self and let you picture these vivid visuals as they play on.
That's what the EP is all about. It's beautiful chaos and it's wrapped up with such a delightfully nostalgic perfection that you want to drink it in slowly.
The guitars put forth such gorgeous melodies and progressions while dripping reverb and echo into the air and letting you drift away.
It's all pure and genuine. You haven;t heard much like this in quite some time and it feels absolutely amazing to let yourself get washed away with everything.
It feels like a live show right there in your face.
Songs drift off and then BOOM! They explode and you were sort of expecting it but still get taken back by it.
What a full and tasteful alternative rock opus this EP turned out to be indeed and with its release, we wanted to have a chat with the band to find out where it all came from.
Here's what happened.
TSWS: Where did this record come from?
We released our first single back in February and we wanted to add more music to
our discography. It’s the first time we’ve gotten the proper studio treatment and we
wanted to show our evolution as band in the best light possible. We just thought the
three tracks we chose fit really well together and flowed nicely into one another.
TSWS: I'm hearing some great styles on this release. Who are some of your biggest musical
influences?
We’re all massive fans of 90s alt-rock music, bands such as Hum, The Smashing
Pumpkins, Deftones, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr, and Failure. Our inspiration is
to combine those classic sounds with influences from more modern bands such as
Narrow Head, Nothing, Ovlov, and Weed.
TSWS: So how did this all begin for you guys?
The band started when we were younger back in 2019 after a music workshop we
did during the summer. We went through a few line-up changes and a name change
until we got to the current form we’re in today. We’ve been playing as Fulvetta with
the current line-up since September 2021.
TSWS: What's next for you as a band?
With the release of our new EP, we’ll be getting back to gigging as much as possible,
and try to keep on building our strong fanbase. When the time comes, we’ll hit the
studio again and record more new material. But for now, getting this EP out to as
many people as possible is our priority.
TSWS: What inspires you to write a song?
Our passion for music and our desire to replicate the musical heroes we all look to is
the real driving force. We use music as a form of expression and an outlet for our
emotions, most of our music is based on the happenings of lives.
TSWS: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
Dylan Quinn: I’m in 6 th year so a lot time is taken up by doing work. Otherwise, my time is spent in
the gym and writing poetry
AJ: A lot of my time is also taken up doing work, I’m in college studying maths. Apart
from music, I enjoy a good book from time to time and going on long walks with a
pair of earphones on.
Dylan French: Just like Dylan Quinn, I’m in 6 th year and I’m working part time during the weekends.
I don’t have much free time so any time I have really just goes towards music.
Grace: I’m in college studying computer science and a part-time programmer. I spend a lot
of time on computers fixing things.
TSWS: Who are you all listening to right now?
AJ: Midwest emo pairs really well with the overall Autumn feel for me. I’m currently
listening to a lot of Mineral, particularly their album The Power of Failing.
Dylan Quinn: I listen to a huge mix of things, from classical, funk, jazz, everything really. I’ve been
enjoying the albums Action is Go lately by Fu Manchu and LSD and the Search For
God’s self-titled album.
Grace: I’ve been going through the Deftones discography lately, just listening to different
stuff from all their albums. I’d say White Pony is my favourite album by them at this
minute
Dylan French: A lot of rap, dance, indie, especially Beach House as of late. In terms of new releases,
the new Blood Orange EP and the new Sam Gellaitry album have been two I’ve really
enjoyed.
TSWS: Are you guys doing live performances?
We try play a gig every two/three weeks. We’ve got some exciting stuff planned
around the release of the EP to celebrate it and then afterwards we’ll continue
playing around Dublin as much as possible.
TSWS: This EP seems like a big undertaking. What kind of advice might you have for other
up and coming bands out there?
There’s a lot of hurdles in your path in the music industry, it can get very draining
from time to time but it’s important not to give up. Take every opportunity and
every gig you can and network as much as possible with other bands and people in
the industry.
TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
There’s no music without the fans and we can’t express enough how much we
appreciate every single person that has given us a listen, gone to our shows, etc..
We’ve always got something exciting coming up on the horizon so make sure to
follow us on our socials, and of course, go give our EP a listen!
