An Alluring Release from Gaby Duboisjoli
A new EP release from Gaby Duboisjoli comes through with an intense blend of pop genres and throughout the unfolding of the record not only do you get an alluring and sultry approach vocally, but you get this brilliant combination of vintage pop, dance-pop, R&B, soul, and more, all rolled up into this one juicy record that gives off so much lush personality that you cannot help but get attached to it all.
The Feel Me EP spans four songs and two remixes and between everything, it's a solid 20 minutes but throughout its unfolding, you really get a feel for certain different sides of Gaby as a person and how she weaves that into her artistry.
This record holds very little back in the way of lyrics and just expressing herself in a free-flowing manner, getting sensual, getting honest, and just letting things out the way she wants to do it.
I think that bold lyrical approach and honesty is one of my favorite aspects of the record because those are the kinds of things that show her character throughout this release and also those are the kinds of things that pull you into the release as well.
Each song that passes makes you want to listen to the next and the most fun part about that is that all the songs are a little different from each other as well.
As I mentioned earlier, some of these are completely different kinds of approaches than others. The more soulful and R&B songs have those sensual aspects to them. But there's also driving dance-pop and those songs feel super current and ultra radio-friendly as they bring synths and keys into the mix, up-swing beats, and a different kind of energy to everything.
This is one of those releases that you should listen to from beginning to end because if you listen to only one song then it will not give you anywhere near the full spectrum of what this EP has to offer even in just 20 minutes time.
Some of my other favorite aspects about this release are not just the vocals but the production as well. Some of the tracks have an alternative pop flow and her character vocally fits right into those two.
It seems like she's able to sort of morph that character a little bit from song to song based on how the track actually sounds musically and that's amazing to me.
Don't get me wrong, it's very confluent and there's a lot of flow from the beginning to the end of the record but it's just got this natural diversity to it that still feels like they all belong together, but it is a little wild as well. It's all part of her personality so even the fact that these songs have such a difference in musical taste and approach also displays part of who she is.
This was colorful but edgy. It was charismatic and vivacious, but it was also alluring and subtle. There's a lot of layers to the record and it's super fun to peel them all back one by one.
As I mentioned earlier, this record is four originals with two remixes of those. Both remixes on the record are completely different as well and their collaborations with Minimums who does a remix of "Say Please", the first track on the record, and also another remix from FHUR which is wildly different and this one is of a track called "Naughty Thoughts" which is my personal favorite track on this release.
I severely enjoyed the fact that there were crazy remixes of these songs on the release itself because not a lot of artists do that. A lot of artists separate their remixes for a different release but she put them on the original EP and that made it a little bigger and let you soak things in a little differently.
Gaby is an artist who doesn't put out music that has a lot of walls built around it. It is created with a lot fewer boundaries than you may be used to but they're also super catchy, a little familiar, very welcoming, and super intriguing as well.
She put this together brilliantly and I feel like this speaks volumes for her as an artist.
Again, I would urge you to listen to the entire EP including the remixes all at once because it's the best way to soak it in.
See how this record affects you.
