Henri Julien Releases "fonder with time" EP
If you have not wrapped your ears around the sounds of Henri Julien as of yet then let us bring you up to date because the artist has recently released a very warm set of songs that tell stories from personal points of view and as you listen, you begin to get a feel for who Julian is.
The EP is dubbed "fonder with time" and it does give a blend of folk with hints of Indie sounds in its underbelly but it's got this compassion that is real and this helps you connect with the songs on a more personal level.
What's cool about this is the songs aren't stripped down like just classic folk, but more full body and come through robust at times so he really can feel a sort of dramatic element with all of it.
It's not hard to tell that these songs mean a lot to Henri and by releasing them he's shedding light on what life was like for him at certain points.
One track in particular called "michigan lake" has a video released along with it and this video shows all these clips of a family on a lake in the woods, on a boat, roaming through fields.
Are these memories? Are they his?
"Fonder with Time is a deeply personal project for me. After Aquarius Dreams disbanded, I felt this urge to go back to my roots and explore the memories of my childhood in rural Ontario. The EP is about nostalgia and the bittersweet feelings that come with reflecting on the past. It's about understanding that the present moment often can't be fully appreciated until it's become a memory. It speaks of the tender moments shared with others; and the missteps and blunders. The blend of sunkissed memories and the regretful things you might have said or done. The simple beauty of looking at someone who is looking back at you, only to begin to smile. It explores how days become years, and how years even more quickly become decades. The blissful joy of being with others, and the inevitable heartbreak that accompanies their loss. Writing this album was a cathartic experience, allowing me to process and give meaning to those past experiences. Each track is a piece of my story, a way to connect with listeners on a personal level" - Henri Julien
Either way, it's fantastic and very warming to watch and listen to.
When I watched this video I felt something from it because it was nostalgic, and even though those memories were not mine, I still connected to all of it.
Of course, this is just one example of what you can expect from the record so do yourself a favor and give it a listen.
