KOZEN DROPS AN OUTSTANDING EP

A new EP release from KOZEN delivers a unique blend of rock genres that come together and end up creating the sort of atmosphere that you fall into and don't want to leave and it's all done by bringing together elements of fierce and edgy alternative rock, well-rounded indie rock, there's even loads of pop and classic rock influence in there, and more.
The thing about the Sunwaves EP is that it is extremely danceable half the time and you can also jump around the room or bang your head to it the rest of the time.
It's an unbelievable combination and the guitar work across the board is outstanding as it also can bend its tonality a little bit to what the song entails as well. For example, on heavier tracks the guitar tone is more distorted and has that punch your feel while on lighter tracks it's got less distortion and feels more like something out of a classic rock track but either way, you're getting a sort of personality with each track and I think that's what you end up getting attached to.
This was bright, catchy, it had charisma, it was extremely danceable, and colorful, and there were surprises around every corner.
These are the kinds of things that I look for out of a rock EP and these guys pulled it off without a hitch as they pick up on a slew of influences that let them thrive.
To me, this was a record that was written and built with fewer boundaries than the norm, and even though that's the case, it still came through with this pop coating that let it become not only addictive but a lot of songs give off hooks that end up bouncing around in your brain for hours or even days after the songs have ended and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to them again.
Certain songs had a warmth that reached out while others had a little bit more of that edginess but whatever you get from this record the all the songs somehow go together.
As a matter of fact, this almost feels like it's a concept record of sorts.
What I can certainly tell you is that listening to one or two songs from this record will still not give you the full range of what the EP has to offer.
Within that six-song spectrum, you're getting a ton of different styles that seamlessly flow into each other.
You can certainly hear a little bit of metal in the roots of this band at times but you can also hear how they've grown and sort of evolved into this more sort of pleasurable and pop-oriented Rock soundscape while still keeping that bit of harshness in there when they want to.
What's more is the energy that's contained on this release because it almost feels like some of these songs were recorded live on the floor and everyone involved was feeding off each other's energy the entire time.
This is very unique and gives that live performance vibe at times while keeping everything super tight and well-polished at the same time.
This record is very well produced and I do have to talk about how the mix is nearly perfect the entire time.
The record is a little bit eclectic so, to have the record keep to a certain aesthetic which it certainly does, the mix is really important.
The balance and energy levels, textures, and progressions all come together and a mix is something that gives it that final, not just balance, but polish that lets it come through with an impact.
Everything about this record was well thought out but it also had a lot of heart and character and that is something I find very valuable in a release.
Certainly check this out as soon as you can and again, I would strongly suggest listening to the record from beginning to end.
