A Gorgeous Single from Naomi Elisa
A brand new single from Naomi Elisa brings out a lush and almost cinematic soundscape that comes in waves giving it the feeling of being alive and breathing and with it, you get this very personal undertone and character that you end up getting attached to very quickly.
"Drop" is a flowing and almost dream-like track that consists of a beautifully composed and arranged musical approach that at times can feel intense as the beats grow but it also has this beautiful layer of edginess to it to go along with this graceful feeling then it gives off and the song really lets you get engulfed and wrapped up in the entire thing and eventually, washed away with it all as well.
The way she performs vocally is so unique and comes with this soft almost whisper-like vibe and tonality that, at times, made me think of artists like Bjork which in itself is a rarity to come across.
The way that she doubles her vocals and uses them almost as instruments themselves is beautiful because they add this amazing layer of melodic tension and almost like a haunt to the music itself.
Lyrically this song is completely honest and she has a very unique way of articulating our inner thoughts and giving them out for the world to see.
This is more of an experience than a single and when you listen to it, it sort of pulls you away from your surroundings and puts you in a different place altogether and this is because it's got its own atmosphere to it.
There's a vastness that pulls you in and this to me is an absolutely beautiful thing because this helps the authenticity come through and it also pushes that emotional drive that the song is based on.
There was a lot of attention paid to the creation of this song and the details of its underbelly, especially in the way it was composed: the combination of piano, intricate beats, and synth sounds that show face every once in a while and add that edginess I mentioned earlier.
But even with all of that, it never loses that hard or that character that it was built from in the first place and this made me the most important aspect of the entire thing.
The production of the track as a whole has some great experimental undertones to it and this is part of I was able to breathe which is also what pulls it away from being anything near cookie cutter.
This is a perfect example of a songwriter that releases music with fewer boundaries than the norm and I think that's a brilliant thing because that's what music should be.
It should break away from the walls that are built around any kind of normality that's expected and just be its own thing.
This is important in any form of art because you're expressing yourself and it doesn't matter what people think while you're creating. You're doing it for you because it means something. It is important to your being.
The beauty of this of course is that the listener can interpret it in whatever way they want but it certainly will have an effect on them and this song leaves that kind of mark.
Naomi sheds parts of herself or at least it feels that way and this song may just as well serve as the soundtrack to a certain chapter in her life.
I suggest listening to this track with headphones on so that you can really soak in all the intricacies and drive that it contains.
A gorgeous approach and a song that has a wonderfully woven build to it that stands apart from what you may be used to but still has this realness and sort of edgy alternative pop flow that gives it life.
Check this song out and let it swim through the air that surrounds you.
See how it affects you.
