November Dog Drop A Texture Riddled Brand New Single
November Dog are back with a new single that blends a lot of spacious and cinematic vibes with crisp, clean guitars and vocals that feel pretty emotional, delivering this big sort of soundscape that's layered with amazing tones and easily wraps itself around you.
One of the things about "Out of Ideas" that stands out is its blend of natural and digital instrumentation, and how those come together in a seamless fashion.
The song boasts thick, warm but still somewhat edgy synth pads that flow through the ether of the track and give it that spacious feel. This is why you get soaked into it so well, and so quickly.
Those synthesizers provide more of an expansive melody and texture that serves the song well, giving it more depth, letting you fall deeper into it.
For me, it also helps push a little bit of the emotion behind the track as well.
The synths are overlapped with flowing, clean, electric guitars that really give you more of a bopping rhythm, which works amazingly with those big synthesizers underneath them.
This is a really cool idea because it takes certain attributes of pop-rock, indie rock, and again, the electronic aspect of it is really used for effect and adding a bit of sonic sheen underneath everything.
The drumming, as I mentioned earlier, is kind of straightforward because the song has some deep pockets and that's what it's meant for. It has a bit of a stopping element to it; those kicks really cut through a lot of the other instrumentation.
As the song unfolds, it builds up as well. The intensity grows and grows, and by the time you get halfway through it, everything is at a bit of a higher energy level, which is something this band is amazing at, in general.
By the time you get to that final chorus, everything is at a maximum level. There is just a huge amount of lushness in terms of those tones that sort of come at you, and it gives the song that climactic intensity that it needed.
This, once again, just showcases a band that's able to focus on arrangement and, during the performance, keeps in mind the element of building a song so that it packs a punch by the end.
The vocals also grow in their intensity as the song plays on, but don't really go over the top. They stay focused on melodic drive, which is important because those are the kind of hooks that get stuck in your head after the song is over.
They'll stick with you, and you end up humming them later on in the day.
You can clearly see these guys definitely have their pop sensibilities intact, and when they write songs, they want to give you something powerful and somewhat impactful, big, with certain elements of sonic overtone, but also keep that emotion and pop close by.
The whole thing was really well thought out, but it's the performance that really nails it.
It's such a spacious soundscape that it feels almost like a live performance.
I love how the vocals roll out because, again, he's got a particular kind of vibrato in his voice, and it does help put you in the moment with the song quite often.
One of my favorite aspects about this track in general is the fact that it has an edgy feel, but it's also a little delicate. It's got an elegance in its performance but it's hard in certain places so that you can feel that rise of energy in your bones.
This was a really good performance through and through, and not a song that you want to miss.
We're definitely no strangers to November Dog, and I can tell you right now that this single follows their last one amazingly.
