Sam Himself Is Back With A Full Album Release
With a brand spanking new album the artist Sam Himself gives us a completely refreshing take on what it means to seamlessly melt genres together in order to create a bountiful and cinematic atmosphere that has a way of grabbing hold of you.
The Never Let Me Go album is riddled with an anthemic form of Indie pop that blends in plenty of vast Rock and the whole thing is completely brimming with heart and personality.
And that's the big thing with this record, is that it boasts a ton of character. When it's over you feel like you know the artist a little bit better and I think that's something that music has been missing for quite some time.
The other cool thing about this album is that you can clearly hear a sort of later classic rock influence coming through on a lot of these tracks and that changes the game a little bit.
Guitar-wise the tones are across between old school and new school which is genuinely brilliant because it lets the songs take on the form of either or.
Vocally it's got that sort of Arcade Fire distanced and personal vocal that lets the artist come from a certain standpoint.
And that's the character that I mean. You get personality out of it and storytelling which both in combination make something incredibly memorable.
On the pop side of things, there's more than a few gems that have some really intelligent use of synths and colors that complete this sort of formula that he has for creating that feel and vibe.
And it has a vibe. It's the kind of record that when you hear it, you know who it is if you're familiar with the artist. There is a wonderfully woven set of songs across this release and an old soul sort of youthfulness that peeks through all the time.
This record has layers for sure and it's very fun to peel those back as you listen.
That almost theatrical and cinematic tone also becomes more and more evident as the record plays through and it makes for an infectious aspect because this is how the record ends up sort of engulfing you.
And it feels really good to let it engulf you believe me. This is because it's not overpowering in a bad way. It actually feels really great because there's this kind of nostalgic feeling that creeps on you the more you listen.
But it's personal, like these songs were parts of chapters of your own life at some point.
Everything about this was really gracefully done and this is a very big album release that obviously means a lot to Sam Himself so I'm definitely going to say this; listen to the full album.
Sure, there are singles here but although it's not necessarily a concept album, it kind of feels like one and it's much better to soak it in that way.
