An Interview With Serena Alexander
An absolutely gorgeous new release from Serena Alexandra brings out a very personal and dreamlike experience that has the ability to wrap itself around you and keep you right where it wants to as you become wonderfully engulfed in this beautiful and passionate single.
"Woven" comes through as extremely honest and is incredibly Lush with a cinematic drive that creates an atmosphere that you can just get washed away with.
As the song plays on the intensity grows and by the third course you're swept away and don't want to come back.
Part of the beauty of this song is that it has the ability to cause memories of your own to pop into your head at random and it's that emotional drive that keeps that feeling alive throughout the track.
You can easily and quickly tell that this comes from real-life experience and has that genuine authenticity that makes a song cause the hairs on your arms to stand up straight.
Everything about this song is absolutely graceful and the performances are so dynamically perfect that you can feel the heart and soul that the song actually portrays.
Pianos and strings that are orchestrated in depth with this soothing and woeful tonality really engulfs you in the best ways possible.
This is the type of track that he listened to with headphones and more than once as well because you really want to soak everything in properly.
Serena also shows her absolute powerhouse of presence throughout this track and her ability to create a ballad that can move you and pull on your heartstrings with the greatest of ease.
Throughout the course of this song, you begin to feel it in your bones and I think we all need music that makes us feel and think, especially these days.
The way everything was arranged, built, and put together was with great attention to detail and all the particular intricacies that go into creating the cinematic and almost theatrical experience of a song but throughout it all it never loses that heart that it began with.
This is the kind of song that lets you escape a little bit and go into someone else's emotion in mind which is something you don't get often in songs so when it happens especially with this level of intensity you at times, don't even want to come out of it.
It's got such a raw emotion to it that you want to stay so you do not have to come back to your reality but when you do, you have to react to me yourself again.
It's like reading a chapter of a really good book and then looking up around the room.
With the release of such a beautiful single, you wanted to have a sit down with Serena Alexandra to find out where the single actually came from and what might be coming next for her.
Here's what happened.
TSWS: Okay, let's start with "Woven"! This song had such a beautiful and lush soundscape to it that felt cinematic and impactful! Where did this come from?
Woven as an idea first came to me in a poem. The melody came after, when I imagined what it would be like to be from the renaissance era, but with a modern twist.
TSWS: What kind of things really inspire other songs for you?
My music is a culmination of everything I’ve experienced in life so far. From conversations to movie heroes I fall in love with, to the beauty in the world around me. Some of my favorite things in the world are baroque architecture, fashion, paintings, films, and unique photography.
TSWS: This single has some great styles on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?
Woven brings me to the feeling of that ethereal storytelling moment, like we get from artists like Sarah Brightman, Kate Bush, and Sia.
TSWS: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
I love natural health. I make my own lotions, shampoos, skincare products, etc. One day I dream of planting my own herb garden so I can make teas from home, too.
TSWS: Who's in your headphones right now?
Lately, I’ve been listening to uplifting music, and country radio. Being born and raised in Southern California where pop and hip hop reign, moving to Nashville has opened the door to these genres that I had ignored most of my life, and I am absolutely in love with this light and fresh music.
TSWS: Are you doing any live performances right now?
My first headlining concert will be this coming Fall in Nashville. All the details will be notified to my email list, and the ability to join and get all those juicy details is on my website at serenaalexandra.com.
TSWS: Did you recruit the instrumentalists for this track?
I had already recorded the piano and vocals in the studio, and then my team came together and wanted to surprise me with the track, so my producer Stokes kept it secret. A week went by, and I was dying to hear it. After waiting and waiting, I saw he sent me a new version, and he asked if there was anything I wanted to change. After one listen, I was on cloud 9. It was exactly what I dreamed it would be, and I absolutely loved it.
TSWS: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
So much more music, beautiful fashions, and stories of love, resilience, and transformation.
TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
Our journey together is just beginning.
