An Edgy Dream-Pop Release From sponj

A fresh new album from sponj brings out a vast and character-riddled indie and dream pop soundscape that can engulf you in the atmosphere that it delivers and once you fall into this atmosphere, you sort of don't want to leave which is something refreshing because this lets the record become an escape.
The Epcot album utilizes a blend of digital and natural instrumentation that come together and build a forward-moving flow in the sound that lets it feel like it's swimming around in the air that surrounds you.
Certain tracks have a little bit of a haunt to them and feel a little edgier than others while some of them let you feel like you're floating right alongside them just a few feet above the ground, but either way, the record certainly can pull you away from your surroundings and put you in a totally different place altogether.
This is an aspect I really adore about the record because some of these songs can cause memories of your own to pop into your head because they feel nostalgic in a way like some of them could have been part of the soundtrack to certain chapters in your own life.
It's very hard to put your finger on this particular attribute but it's there and it lets the record feel sort of warm and freeing in its own way.
The use of beats and synths throughout this record is outstanding and the whole thing keeps to a particular aesthetic where it's a bit lo-fi but that works for the sound it's going for and helps everything come through more well-rounded and with much more personality.
Some tracks come through brighter with different sets of keys and tones a little darker but a lot of the time you're getting those chunks of personality with each track and so this becomes a record that feels almost like a concept album.
It's one of those albums that you should be listening to the whole way through from beginning to end not only to soak in everything that it offers lyrically, but for the simple fact that if you only listen to one or two tracks, you're getting nowhere near the full spectrum of what the album has to offer.
This is a personal record and it has a very unique way of crawling into your skin in the best ways possible.
This is a record that is built with fewer boundaries than the norm and crosses genres on a normal basis so because of that it becomes addictive and something that you keep wanting more of.
Don't get me wrong, this is indeed an indie pop and dreamscape type of record where the sounds are alive and the songs are breathing but there's also a bit of a genre-bending going on throughout the record that also helps push that envelope a little bit more.
This was a deepening sort of release that, in certain ways, felt like reading someone's diary.
You just get that character and personality flowing toward you and when you're done with the album you have to reacclimate yourself back to reality again.
This was a vast and charismatic, graceful, and edgy record that I feel is part of what the future of pop is all about.
Take a deep dive into this record as soon as you can and see how it affects you.
