The new album from The Cavernous

(is one you'll need to call to hear)

Can you remember the last time you listened to an entire album by dialing a phone number? The answer is obviously no, and that's likely because I don't think it's happened until now.

This is the case with the new release from The Cavernous.

These guys have released a full album that is made to give the effect of being on hold and listening to some pretty outstanding tracks while you wait.

The effect works pretty much perfectly. You call the number, it gives you a message, and you go into the first track of the record.

As the album opens up and progresses, you get a few messages here and there letting you know you're still on hold and someone will be with you soon, and a slew of electronic-based tracks.

The idea of having to call a number and play an album through as if you are actually on hold, but the music is awesome, is something I didn't understand at the very beginning. Once I called the number and started listening, I understood the whole thing.

This is a genius way to release a record, and again, I don't really think it's been done before now, although I can't be 100% sure.

As you go through the record, you start to get a grasp of the different Vibes that the songs give off.

They are certainly experimental but also fall into that electronic, jazz, and chill beats feel.

There are such potent flavors, sounds, and tones flowing through the veins of this record.

Plenty of sounds come through that imitate other instruments, but also get coated in trippy or colorful sonic skins that make things feel refreshing while keeping deep grooves.

Some of these feel a little wilder than others, while some others are again, more chilled out and laid-back, bringing classic and vintage chill approaches to the record, and this mix of styles fluctuates throughout the release.

The album is called Please Hold, appropriately so. It is one of those releases that gives you a lot and takes you to these different places, but it should be listened to from start to finish.

Listening to it this way is how you can experience the full idea or just get embedded into their world properly.

So, here's how you do it.

Grab your cell phone and call 1-877-420-9159.

Plug in your AirPods or headphones, or just connect via Bluetooth to your car, and imagine that you're actually on hold with a company that you've called, only this time the music is awesome.

That's the whole idea.

The Cavernous is a duo that brings each other a particular energy to feed off of.

One works their magic with a more lo-fi, vintage chill beat aspect while still keeping some of that electronic limitation right up front, while the other adds layers upon it that make things a bit psychedelic or trippy.

It's quite a match made in heaven in terms of creating something that feels semi-nostalgic but also crisp and refreshing at the same time.

This was such a cool idea, and it plays out exactly the way it was intended.

The number again is 1-877-420-9159.....call now!

Call it and let this album play through.

It was obviously created for its own sake. They're not looking for royalties or anything special. They just wanted to make a record that had this theme attached because they wrote some great songs that made them think of hold music in a way.

It just works.

Call this number and take in the record.
