An Interview With The Rocketz

11854-illseeupromo-17697198251948.jpg

A warm sort of punk-rock release from The Rocketz just dropped, and this single blends classic Irish Celtic with punk and rockabilly so smoothly, even with acoustic guitar, flutes, and more, along with a sonically driving punk overtone, and it's all done with this amazing heart and an adventurous sort of message.

"I'll See You Again Someday" seems to me like a track that's about getting out there, moving on, and seeing what the world has to hold. It's about not saying goodbye, but saying see you again.

That's where the sense of adventure comes in. Getting yourself out into the world by way of just getting up and leaving everything you know is a wild concept to a lot of people.

It's about leaving your comfort zone and not even knowing where you'll end up, but knowing you'll see everyone you left behind one day.

This really connected with me because it's something that we all have inside of us at certain points in our lives.

It's almost like a yearning; A call to get up and go because I think as people, we need a certain sense of adventure, something new, something fresh in our lives. We need something to sort of wake us up and give us that classic sensation of feeling alive again.

Sometimes, packing up and going wherever is going to be the thing to give you that.

The warmth of this song is in the title itself. It's saying, "I'll see you again someday, but for now I'm doing this."

It's something you do for yourself, and honestly, I don't think I've heard it in such a unique form.

As I mentioned earlier, this track is driving and has a great punk rock overtone, belting vocals a lot of the time, amazing progressions, and a vivacious energy and attitude that are both completely infectious from the very start of the song.

The drums are absolutely banging the entire time, pretty much. They hit hard, but they also give the song and added sort of liveliness that I feel like the rest of the band pushes off of.

There is a great breakdown in the song where those Celtic sort of flutes come in, and they give a great little hook. Acoustics come in behind those, and that's where you get the sort of roots Celtic undertone that comes through. For the rest of the song, even when the punk rock comes back, and everything sort of gets heavy again, those flutes and Acoustics are still present through to the end of it.

That's where the whole Celtic rockabilly mix comes in, it's got such a cultural Flair to it, and you can hear that ever present Ode to vintage Celtic music every step of the way.

The guitar starts following those flute hooks at the end, which I really adored, and the whole song just has this personal feel to it.

It's a great story told from a personal perspective, and I feel, again, like a lot of people can relate to it directly.

This was a perfect blend of color and edginess, honesty, and character.

It came through super vibrant, bouncing, uplifting, and just authentic.

Now, if you were pretty unfamiliar with The Rocketz up until this point, then I strongly suggest you listen to some of their other material, including their amazing cover of The Beatles' original, "Can't Buy Me Love", which is amazingly done, along with the full Lovesick & Heartbroke album from 2022.

All this stuff is well worth digging through because it's super fun and a lot of it just has this in-your-face kind of approach that you can't turn away from.

I would definitely start with "I'll See You Again Someday" as it's something that introduces you to the sound amazingly, and again blends vintage cultural Celtic influence in with vivacious punk rock incredibly well.

However, going through some of the back catalog is also super fun.

Upon digging into this single, I knew I wanted to ask a few questions to find out where it came from and what might be coming up next for the project.

So, while you listen to this music, have a read through of our interview with The Rocketz below.

Let's talk about "I'll See You Again Someday"! This song  had a bit of a punk overtone, live performance energy, and this hard-hitting approach bringing Rockabilly to the mix!  Where did this track come from?

The Rocketz have always tried to capture our live energy in the studio. It’s hard to do and I admit that our live shows is where I’m most comfortable, but we did get lucky with this track! I have an affinity for Celtic music both traditional and Celtic Punk. So, I write my own songs plus we do some covers too!

I'm hearing a few different approaches to this single! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

On the Celtic side there are so many great bands that I draw an influence from Drop Kick Murphy’s and Flogging Molly to The Mahones and Real McKenzies to name a few and of course Pogues and Dubliners.

Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?

This track was recorded at Pot of Gold studios in Orange, CA. Tracked, mixed and mastered by David Irish and produced by me with David.

You also covered "Can’t Buy me Love" which was amazing! Why that one?

I’m not a huge Beatles fan but that song just called to me. I heard it in my head with a rockabilly flair. I’m playing the original bass line only applying the slap technique with a upright bass, plus some rockabilly ear candy. I’m so happy with how it came out!

How did this all start for you as a band?

The Rocketz started out as bass lessons! I was giving bass lessons and creating guitar hooks for my student to play bass lines from the lesson along to. Some of those guitar hooks turned into three songs from The Rocketz first album, haha. That was early 2004 and our first album released 2005 and its no looking back ever since.

Are you performing live right now?

Early 2026 is light on the live shows, we have a couple of festivals and some high visibility showcase shows. Summer of 2026 will be super busy.  You can always check our website therocketzband.com also follow us on Spotify as they notify you when a band you follow is playing live near you, which is a cool feature, I think!

Now that this is out, what's next for you?

We have several new songs in the works. There a re couple more Celtic originals as well as our main rockabilly sound originals in the works. The Rocketz also are booking a US Summer tour and a Fall Texas run!

Who's in your headphones right now?

So many cool bands out there, I like Plague Vendor, Hounds of Belfast and I’m listening to a lot of doowop oldies lately.

What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

This is some toe tappin’, butt shakin’ billy-punk! It’s easy to sing along to and easy to relate to. Basically, a song about going out a finding yourself, discovering who you are before you can go home.

Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

Please continue to support live music! Go to a small venue and watch new bands. Some of these bands will be great and some not so much but we’re all out there playing for ourselves and for who ever may wander in. You are important to live music go be a part of something great!
