Träšhbag Drop A Hard Hitting Debut Single
So, if you are on the lookout for something heavy, gritty, adventurous, rambunctious, thrashy, but also insanely bouncy, then look no further because I give to you the new release from Träšhbag, "My White Van".
The reason this track covers all of those bases is simply that it cares not about how hard it's about to go. This track goes hard and heavy with a super stretched, bouncing riff that has such a unique tone and combination of distorted bass guitars that it makes you feel almost like you're listening to a Primus riff.
It's a blend of what some may consider new metal, with thrash, punk, garage, and alternative.
Using the word bounce for a riff like this is an understatement. Saying this riff will make you bounce is not doing it justice.
This will make you jump up and down in the air as high as possible, and they really just nail that whole approach.
The riff is a blend of low and high octaves played in open strings instead of chords, and it sounds like there are two tracks of the bass guitar. One sounds a little cleaner while the other one is heavily distorted.
It's very edgy and insanely fun, and what really makes it work is the drumming.
There's all kinds of cool kick drum action going on in between those bouncing beats. He pulls off so much as a drummer to make this come through with massive energy.
The vocals come in swinging as well. They're animated, rough around the edges, and have this kind of loudspeaker effect on them that gives it a bit more of an alternative underbelly, but they're delivered with robustness. There is a total alternative garage feel that's coming from those vocals, and it's what really breathes extra life into the already exuberant sound that you hear.
Of this very heavy riff, and later on they intensify it by bringing in some chords into the mix as the drums just slam on those crash symbols, destroying everything in sight.
The band then goes into this sort of grungy, chopping alternative riff that is kind of sloppy, but again, this is why it breeds a bit of that garage punk and rock feel.
Don't get me wrong, this is super well put together, but it's the aggressive and sort of closed-fisted, gut-punch energy that really makes this song as overwhelming as it is.
So, they're able to put together that bouncing element with the aggression, the inventive riffs, the great bass work, and the blend of bass guitar tones coming together with the same single note, along with the drumming just pushing everything forward and adding insane amounts of drive to everything.
This was so fun. It felt like a live performance. It feels like you're watching a band just rock out live.
I love hearing bands where the energy is just absolutely through the roof. These guys pulled that off and then some. They are unique, and they pull off a blistering sound that is completely stomping.
Here's the thing: this is a two-piece band. It's bass guitar and drums along with vocals. Both of them are singing, and bassist Zap Dixon has a natural knack for creating boisterous tone with his instrument.
You know, I am a fan of two-piece bands like Death from Above 1979, Royal Blood, and more. The thing with these guys is that I didn't realize it was a two-piece band until after I listened to the song the first few times.
What's crazy is it seems like this is their debut single.
I hope it's a door opener for more. These guys are an absolute force to be reckoned with, and the song is built with no walls around it. It just tells you to look out because it's coming right through.
The song paves its own path and doesn't care who's in front of it, because they're going to roll over them.
It's been a while since I've heard a song that really made me want to jump as this one does.
There's no way you're turning it off as soon as that main riff comes in. Now, there's other cool bass guitar work throughout the song, but nothing hits quite like that big old riff.
This song was absolute whiplash, and I highly doubt that you'll be able to turn this on, turn it up, and not start headbanging or jumping in the air. It's that kind of jam.
