Wasting May Returns With A Beautiful Single
Wasting May returns with another beautifully performed single that crosses boundaries between folk, singer-songwriter, and even Americana approaches and it's all done with this heartfelt performance and a delivery that lets the song feed into your own subconscious by creating connective and relatable lyrics with this emotional drive that all breed an atmosphere that makes the song feel like it was written for you and you alone.
"Can You Tell?" has a natural and smooth forward-moving flow with vocals that are silky and smooth coming in like soft waves in the ocean and you end up flowing right on top of those naturally so the song kind of whisks you away with it and lets you flow with it.
Vocals are performed and the guitar is played is outstanding simply because both of these factors grow in intensity as the song plays on so by the time you get towards the end of the track it's got this high level of energy, and that emotional drive is more impactful as things feel super authentic.
This is certainly a very personal song and if you listen to the lyrics it's about someone in particular but when you hear it, you're able to sort of put the song into your own life and some way shape or form and this is very connective and let's this beautiful approach and personal style really work.
I love songs that give off pieces of the artist and this song certainly does that from beginning to end.
The guitar work is very sort of lush in a way and it makes me think of artists like Elliott Smith while the vocals compliment that by adding this beautiful textural layer to the song and like I said earlier, as a song grows in intensity you get more of those vocals and a harder heavier strum to guitar.
The way this duo works together just feels like something they've been doing forever, and the singing approach performed by Evelyn May Nielsen lifts you and puts you in a dreamlike state and this is something that feels unreal.
The way she layers her vocals and harmonizes them in the background as she uses them almost like instruments themselves is astounding and really just takes everything to another level.
Wasting May is a duo based out of Florida and although the two have known each other since 2018, they didn't start actually writing music together until last year.
Songwriters and performers Ethan DeBoard and Evelyn May Nielsen have certainly been able to collaborate and create something genuine.
This is music created with fewer boundaries so everything's right out in the open for you to soak in how you will which I find refreshing and in a way rejuvenating even.
A beautiful new single from Wasting May and from what I can tell, maybe an EP in the works as well.
I'm certainly going to be keeping an eye out for that one.
In the meantime, this new track will certainly suffice, and I suggest you listen to this one as well especially if you're a fan of heartfelt singer-songwriter and acoustic music because this hits all the sweet spots that you'd want from the genre.
