Wkndr Returns With A New EP Release
A new EP release from Wkndr gives off a variety of smooth and still edgy pop rock that delivers a lush character and a set of memorable and intimate choruses that beckon classic rock at times but give off a bountiful and danceable backbone a lot of the time.
The Brighton Green EP certainly has some outstanding guitar work across the span of its songs and the energy that's given is almost like a live performance that feels like everyone's feeding off of each other and for that reason I'm almost convinced these songs were recorded live on the floor.
I feel like it's so hard to capture this kind of energy without doing something like that and even if I'm wrong, the record makes you want to see them live simply because that power that you hear on the recording itself has such a particular energy that seeing it live must be great.
I absolutely adore how each different song on this record, which is three different tracks, by the way, manages to boast its own personality and atmosphere, attitude, and different sets of tones.
This ranges from a robust alternative rock to a cinematic almost Americana undertone at times and no matter which you get you have this atmosphere that you're stepping right into.
The first track dubbed "Doing Okay" both that classic rock aesthetic right down to a winding and bending guitar solo and it keeps to this feel throughout the track with an acoustic guitar backbone and in effect on the vocals that has a slight echo to it which boasts that more almost live sound and before that last chorus it breaks down into a crowd chant and that gives the song a certain warm.
From there the next track comes right in and the groove is heavy but the riff is deeper and a little bit more hard-hitting. "All In" has a little bit more edge to it but it also has organs in the background that fill the space and this also calls back to a little bit of a classic rock influence at the same time.
By the time you get to the third song, "Waiting For the Sun" you get a vibe that's bigger and has a little bit more of a serious feel to it than the other two tracks do.
This is the song that boasts that cinematic tone as it does have an acoustic guitar as the main feature the rolling snares give it a sort of Americana approach but it's the vocals that carry it because they give it a certain depth that adds to this hint of darkness and struggles ahead that the song focuses on.
What surprised me about this track was the flute which in a certain way takes the place of the guitar solo approach that seems to be a staple of the record before this track.
Although each song has its own vibe in a way, there is a glue that puts the three songs together very well with each other and you can hear mounds of heart that's just oozing from every no plate on this record.
These guys managed to bring everything from funk, little hints of jazz undertones, indie rock, classic rock, and so much more, just all rolled up into one three-track record but the whole thing feels bigger because there's so much variety between the three songs.
When you listen to it you simply won't be able to get over this sort of live performance vibe that they are giving off and the delivery from everything is outstanding to the point where you end up wanting to dig deeper and find more from the band.
Now, we're no strangers to Wkndr but if you are, this is a perfect chance for you to not only start off with this record but then take a little ride through their back catalog starting in 2017 because it's so much fun to be able to track the progress of the band's Evolution and sound and personality.
There's a lot to soak in from singles to full-length albums and every release comes through with a different shade of rock, and there are so many influences that come into play from each different member of this band that you never really know exactly what to expect aside from that it's going to be good.
This was like an arena rock EP that does a damn near perfect job of introducing you to the band if you haven't heard them before and what do you do dig a little deeper you going to find a lot more than a handful of singles that you're going to want to add to playlists and listen to on repeat.
The most important aspect of this record is that it has character and it has heart. You can tell that everyone is having a blast doing what they're doing and this again, makes you want to go see them live so that you can enjoy even more of that infectious energy in person.
Definitely check out the EP when you can and turn it up.
