Sputnik The Band "See You In Mendocino"
If you're anything like me then you're sort of always on the prowl for different kinds of music at different times.
Recently I've been on a pop-rock sort of kick and have had a band brought to my attention that really blew me away.
They are called Sputnik The Band and believe me when I tell you they have this genuine and bright authenticity to them in terms of their performance and songwriting where the songs feel drifting but with hints of edginess at the same time.
A very recent release called "See You In Mendocino" really takes the cake as they bring this brightness and vivacious approach to life with their performance and the way that singing fits in with this fun and crisp music is wondrous because she adds a floatiness and a certain kind of vastness to the track along with these great melodies that sit perfectly atop the music and it all feels like something that you've been listening to on the radio for years now.
One of the coolest parts about this truck is that it was inspired by a James Dean flick and after hearing what made it all happen, I understand even more how they were able to sort of capture this aesthetic that they were going for.
"See You In Mendocino” was inspired by the movie “East of Eden” starring actor James Dean. Sputnik the Band were invited to be part of a special James Dean Event held at The Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville Ca as well as up at The Little River Inn and Mendocino Art Center called “Drive to Eden”. See You In Mendocino was the theme song for this special event honoring the film and James Dean and his good friend Lew Bracker.
We really tried to capture the spirit of the film, John Steinbeck, James Dean and his character Cal, the Northern California coast and of course the free spirit of being on the open road," - Sputnik The Band
The inspiration is unique and they pulled this off without a hitch.
You can check this track out a long way other singles and a few albums as well right on their Spotify page.
Another crack that we took note of was called "Villa Capri" which kept to this same sort of staple in terms of the vibe and the music.
It's funny because when you listen to the songs you can certainly sort of picture them in the scene of a film.
At any rate, definitely take a listen to the single and a bunch more and you can learn plenty about the band on their Instagram or Facebook pages as well.
