An Interview With The Truth Council
With the release of their 13 Degrees EP, The Truth Council put all their cards on the table and came out with something outstanding. The melodic, progressive metal work really shined and allowed the band to prove their worth.
You can read our full review of the record HERE.
In the meantime, we decided to sit down with the bands bassist John Massaglia to find out where this record came from, what's next for the band, and more.
Here is what happened:
TSWS: Okay let's start things off with the 13 Degrees EP. This record has some heavy sections
and amazing guitar work, meolid and almost progressive styles, and a powerful set of
vocals. Where did this record come from?
The winter of 2019 was cold and harsh. I
thought “I should put a band together and write some songs. The title 13 Degrees was
the temperature the day I came up with the idea. So, I got Jason McMichael(guitar) and
Brock Massaglia(drums) some demos and away we went. The material came from ideas
I’d been hanging onto for a long time. Mitch Bland(vocals) joined about 9 months into
the sessions.
TSWS: Did this EP take you a long time to create and finish?
It took about a year to finish. I
write slow.
TSWS: Do you guys get together to rehearse? Will you be focusing on any live performances in
the future?
We do rehearse. We are old school and arrange the songs at a rehearsal.
Due to COVID, we only have 3 shows on the books, but that will change shortly.
How did all of this start for you? Cold weather and a desire to play some exciting music.
I'm hearing a great array of rock styles.
TSWS: What are some of your actual music influences?
We all love Rush and Dream Theater. Mitch(vocalist) is a huge Stryper fan.
Jason(guitar) loves KISS and Queensryche, Brock(drums) loves Animals as Leaders
and HAKEN. I love a lot of music everything from Rick Springfield to Between the
Buried and Me.
TSWS: What's next for you as a band?
We will finish our new EP in May’21 and try to do some
regional touring. I’ve already got some material written for EP#3.
TSWS: What's everyone listening to right now?
I’m listening to the new HAKEN, Flying Colors
and Opeth.
TSWS: You guys have been at this for a while. What kind o f advice would you have for other
bands out there trying to get heard?
Play as much as you can live.
TSWS: What is everyone doing when they're NOT working on music?
We all have day jobs
ranging from insurance adjusters to exotic dancers.
TSWS: Give me your favorite midnight snacks! (It's a question of character)
Brock will down a 5
lb bag of Skittles in nothing flat. I like a nice Merlot at midnight.
TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans out there?
WE love you Canada
